13 Incredibly Delicious and Easy to
Make, Fish Recipes

These recipes don’t disappoint, so get ready for good eats!
So, you’ve got some fish to cook up and now are in need of the perfect recipe, right? We understand that scenario all too well, which is exactly why we scoured the internet to find the best fish recipes out there, so you don’t have to.
These 13 recipes are the cream of the crop, so put your apron on and get ready for some delicious food.

If you can’t tell, we love wild-caught salmon. Really, we do. And you can find plenty of information on that elsewhere on our site. But this article is different because it represents so much more than just great-tasting seafood.

You see, we value sustainable fishing practices and seek to show our support as a company to initiatives that will keep the environment clean and pure.

Bristol Bay, Alaska is one of those places in need of our awareness because for years it has been threatened by a corporation trying to expand an existing gold and copper mine — Pebble Mine — into an enormous operation.

The backstory of Bristol Bay

Bristol Bay is located approximately 200 miles southwest of Anchorage, Alaska. The entire region spans across 40 million acres, which is larger than 15 of 50 states2.

You don’t see many homes or businesses there, but rather, you see a valley of untamed rivers and streams that flow into several nearby lakes that dot the region and to the ocean.

It’s the cream of the crop when it comes to Alaskan salmon because Bristol Bay is home to the world’s largest salmon run and commercial sockeye salmon fishery.

The region flows with species like Coho, Sockeye, and several more. It’s some of the purest, best-tasting salmon in the world. It’s possible that you’ve eaten wild-caught salmon from there without knowing it.

While the fishing has been extraordinary since the region was discovered by man, in recent decades, interest in mining the area has grown exponentially.

What is Pebble Mine and why all the fuss?

Pebble Mine, as it’s currently known, is a mining operation in Bristol Bay, Alaska. The area was first noticed for its enormous ore deposits when an exploration company, Teck Resources, analyzed surface samples at the Pebble site in 19873.

Long story short, Bristol Bay just happens to be the world’s second-largest ore deposit of its type, so it’s not just big, it’s massive. Hence the reason many want to tap into those resources.

Fast forward to 2001 when Northern Dynasty Minerals3 obtained the property from Teck Resources and began further exploration. Since then, the company has identified even more areas that it wants to mine, and it’s had no issue raising hundreds of millions of dollars to fund its vision.

Years ago, Northern Dynasty Minerals proposed to develop a massive mine that would span more than one-mile in length, one-mile in width, and 200 meters in depth.

In layman’s terms, that would destroy more than 81 miles of salmon streams, 3,500 acres of valuable wetlands, and fragment an undeterminable amount of other streams and water bodies spreading miles away.

Parties opposed to the project (like us) are not only worried about the immediate destruction of the land, but also the long-term environmental effects and especially the toll on the salmon run.

Where does the Pebble Mine project currently stand?

As it stands now, Bristol Bay provides more than 14,000 jobs in Alaska and if the project were to be approved, it would be a massive hit to the existing $1.5 billion Alaskan fishing economy1.

On November 25, 2020, The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers rejected a key permit for Pebble Mine1. The denial highlighted various concerns that opposers have voiced all along.

That decision may end up being the nail in the coffin and prevent any further development of Pebble Mine, but it’s likely that Northern Dynasty Minerals will seek an appeal and continue to advocate their cause.

Experts on the situation fully expect USA Wild Seafood, along with many other companies, to continue to advocate that Pebble Mine never be further developed, as the region is one of the earth’s great surviving ecosystems.

If you like fresh Alaskan seafood, then Wild Alaskan Company is pretty much a dream come true.

Going on a fishing trip to Alaska to then ship yourself all of the wild-caught fish would be absurdly expensive, even though it sounds amazing.

That’s where Wild Alaskan Company comes into the picture. Their fish is wild-caught, flash frozen, and shipped directly to your front door. Sounds too good to be true, right?

That’s exactly why we placed a few orders for our team, so we could try it out and give you an informative review. Here we go!

What we liked

What we disliked

! Smaller, individual orders aren’t available. However, to get around this, you can order one box and pause the subscription until you’re ready for more.
Ordering Online
This is where your experience will start, and thankfully, Wild Alaskan Company knows that and has made their website user friendly and quite easy to navigate. Plus, Wild Alaskan Company has gone to the work to offer up some helpful recipes, regardless of whether you order their product or not. It’s a nice touch and we appreciated taking a look at those recipes before deciding which box of fish to order.
Prices and options

The prices are extremely fair for what you get. Eating sustainable, wild-caught seafood isn’t cheap. Especially when you add in the convenience of having it shipped to your door.

Despite all of that, when all is said and done, each 6oz filet ends up costing approximately $10. For this quality of wild-caught seafood, that price point is very appropriate.

We also liked that they have 12-pack and 24-pack options available.

You can choose from three different boxes of fish.
• Salmon (sockeye, coho, etc.)
• Wild white fish only (halibut, cod, etc.)
• Combo box (salmon + white fish assortment)

They sell the fish as a subscription model, which can be canceled anytime, no questions asked. So, if you can spend $131 per month on wild-caught seafood, this subscription is totally worth it, and we highly recommend it.

If not, perhaps you sign up occasionally for a month and then cancel until you want to order it again or try a different box. They make it easy to pause or cancel, and even offer an every-other-month subscription option. We like that approach for smaller families that may not consume as much seafood.

The fish are flash-frozen, so they’ll arrive at your door frozen and you can transfer them to your freezer until you’re ready to thaw and cook them.

Bottom line: There are just enough options here to make it feel natural and not overwhelming. We ordered the combo box and do not regret having the variety of fish to cook up for any given meal.
Packaging & Shipping
Other than our package arriving one day after its expected arrival date, the shipping process went quite smoothly.

The fish comes in a well-insulated, 100% recyclable container within a traditional cardboard box. We also liked that the insulation had some flexibility and added cushion so the fish didn’t get beat up in transport.

Based on their packaging, we get the vibe that the company really cares about sustainability and the environment. And we respect that.

When the box arrived, the fish portions were still frozen and hard as a rock. So the insulation and dry ice worked as expected. We also appreciated some general cooking and preparation instructions that came in the box.

Overall Taste
It’s the moment you’ve been waiting for. How did the fish actually taste? Or would occasionally picking up salmon from your local supermarket or frozen from Costco suffice?

This is REALLY good salmon. It tasted like salmon from fancy, expensive restaurants, and mind you, that’s with regular people cooking it, following online recipes.

The consistency was nice and flaky, but not too crumbly. We were able to cut distinct pieces and eat them fine without the frustrating feeling of picking up a bunch of small, hard-to-gather pieces.

The sockeye salmon brought home the gold for most of us, but the coho was delicious as well. The difference in taste was subtle. The sockeye tasted a bit less “oceany,” but both were mild and delicious.

We also took full advantage of the white fish (pollock, halibut, cod) that came in our shipment and celebrated Taco Tuesday in style. My, oh my, those were tacos to remember.

Bottom line: If you like salmon and are used to eating something store-bought, this will blow your mind. If you like eating salmon at fancy restaurants and want to bring that taste and quality home, you won’t be disappointed in the quality of this fish.
How it stacks up to the competition

Wild Alaskan Company isn’t the only company that ships wild-caught seafood to your door, but it may be the best. We have ordered shipments from Sizzlefish, Sea to Table, Sena Sea, and Lummi Island Wild. While the taste of the fish was comparable in a few instances, the overall experience from start to finish is what put Wild Alaskan Company on top.

From the easy-to-use website to convenient delivery and phenomenal taste, Wild Alaskan just outperformed its competitors.

Read our in-depth comparison review where we pin these popular seafood-to-door services against each other.

Here’s what other USA Wild Seafood team members had to say about Wild Alaskan Company:

I am a very picky eater and even more picky when it comes to fish. So far I have had the Soho Salmon and Wild Alaska Pollock. I was VERY pleased! The fish itself outside the packaging smelt so fresh. Not only was it fresh but it cooked well and tasted delicious!!! I would highly recommend this product to friends and family and even strangers who enjoy good fish 🙂

Jessica H.

I LOVE Salmon! I've previously caught Wild Coho deep-sea fishing in Alaska - then the Sockeye, SMOKED Salmon/Lox…This was a great deal for a LOT of fresh fish to stock my freezer.

Layne K.

Some of the best tasting Salmon and fish I've ever had. Top restaurant-quality taste that has made me an instant fan. I will definitely be getting myself another batch!

Charles B.

I couldn't believe how much product and variety of seafood was in the package. My family couldn't wait to grill some Coho Salmon the same evening. It was absolutely delicious.

Jennifer R.

We live in the desert, so it is amazing to have the peace of mind knowing we are getting the freshest Alaskan wild-caught fish every time. Since receiving our first box, I have made so many new recipes. We even tried new types of fish that we had never seen in our local supermarket. Now we can have seafood any day of the week, not just on special occasions.

Krista S.
Conclusion

If you’re looking for excellent seafood, look no further than Wild Alaskan Company. We really like the idea of budgeting for seafood each month to always have some tasty wild-caught salmon or other fish on hand.

From the initial purchase to cooking and eating the fish, Wild Alaskan Company exceeded our expectations.

Aside from the product itself, we like that Wild Alaskan Company stands for something bigger than just conveniently shipping seafood nationwide, the company vehemently opposes Pebble Mine and strongly believes in sustainable sourcing of seafood. And that is why we can wholeheartedly recommend the company to you.

FAQs
Am I locked into a subscription?

No, you can cancel anytime online. You could order one month, then pause for a month, then start again. Or you can do an every-other-month subscription. But most people want their salmon fix and love the monthly subscription.

How do I know the seafood is not farm-raised?

Wild Alaskan Company only provides sustainably, wild-caught fish. They go to the source, Alaska’s wild fisheries, and can trace the fish from landing all the way to your door. It is never treated with antibiotics or other supplements.

Will the fish spoil if I’m not home?

If you’re going to be out of town, you can easily pause your shipment for that month or have a neighbor hold on to it for you until you get back. But if you’re not home when the shipment is delivered, it can easily last until nighttime on your porch, even in the hot sun, because it is so well insulated.

Is Fresh Fish or Fresh-Frozen Fish Better?

We didn’t know, so we decided to find out.
Imagine yourself at the grocery store or meat market, and you’re in the mood for delicious, even nutritious seafood. As you peer into the glass window to peruse your options, how do you know what’s the best choice—for flavor, nutrition, and sustainability?
The struggle is real.
If you thought, Well, I should just pick the one that says “fresh,” you’re not alone. But you might be surprised to learn that way of thinking may be based on a fishy myth.

The myth of “fresh” when it comes to supermarket fish

If you’re lucky enough to be within a few miles of an actual fishmonger, well, give yourself a pat on the back because you played your seafood cards right and may actually be able to get freshly-caught seafood straight to your plate.   As for the rest of us, we’re going to pay a pretty penny for the chance to eat fish caught within the last few hours. That’s because as soon as seafood leaves the water, the clock starts ticking, and the quality of the meat begins to deteriorate.   It’s expensive to fly seafood from coastal fisheries to consumers, who live inland, hundreds of miles away from the ocean. Which brings up the next issue at hand…   Many vendors label “fresh” fish erroneously, and unfortunately for you and me, it’s a bit of a marketing gimmick. In fact, there’s a good chance that the glistening piece of fish so perfectly placed on ice for the supermarket display was frozen, thawed, then frozen again at one point. There’s also a great chance that it came from a fish farm instead of being wild-caught. That’s a recipe for decidedly “un-fresh” fish. So what’s a seafood fan to do? Don’t worry, we got your back! It’s actually quite simple – consider fresh-frozen! We’ll explain…

The real difference between fresh fish and fresh-frozen fish

To get delicious, nutrient-dense, and highly sustainable fish (spoiler alert: that’s what you want in fish), fresh-frozen may be the way to go. The key is to purchase fish that has been quickly frozen using a nearly century-old technique called flash-freezing.

The process is pretty cool, really. It involves rapidly freezing seafood right at the peak of its quality. Flash freezing reduces the formation of ice crystals (the Elsa kind)—which cause deteriorated taste and texture—and locks in the meat’s nutrients until you’re ready to cook.

But it gets better...

Because the seafood is frozen early in its journey to consumers, it can be packaged easier and shipped using more conventional methods like rail and freight shipping. Shipping this way is often less expensive and more sustainable than methods that may require planes, helicopters, and overnight delivery costs.

In layman’s terms: That means better fish at more affordable prices for people like you and me.

Choosing frozen fish — a smart and delicious choice

Buying flash-frozen (sometimes labeled fresh-frozen) fish is an excellent way to get your seafood kick without sacrificing taste or your wallet. And here’s the great news: Nowadays there are plenty of high-quality, sustainable seafood suppliers that can deliver fresh-frozen fish right to your doorstep!
Hallelujah!

So instead of eyeing that salmon on ice with your skeptical eyes now, you can just skip the supermarket altogether—and the dubious “fresh fish” claims—and order directly from these providers online.

The good news? We’ve done the work for you. Here are the best sustainable seafood providers that ship to you.

You’re welcome!

The 5 Best Ship-to-Your-Door Seafood Companies

Which company has the best fresh-frozen seafood?

From the day we found that ship-to-your-door seafood companies existed, we were eager to try as many of them as possible. So, we did our research and decided to start with five very-highly rated seafood providers.

Our goal is to provide an informative, raw, genuinely real review so that consumers like you can get the best seafood around for the most affordable price.

Let’s dive in.

Article Contents

1. Wild Alaskan Company (4.85 out of 5)

Wild Alaskan Company comes in strong at our number one spot because, well, they do a lot of things right. Starting with the fact that the company only sources sustainable, wild-caught seafood from the Pacific Northwest, then ending with a great overall experience, from the moment you order to the when it arrives and you cook it up. It’s all convenient and easy.

And that’s important because everyone in the country deserves to try fresh Alaskan seafood right? Right.

Aside from shipping anywhere in the USA and having sustainable sourcing practices, Wild Alaskan Company has its process down to a T.
Why we liked Wild Alaskan Company
Do you want the good or the great first? Seriously though, Wild Alaskan Company gave us an incredible experience from start to finish, which is precisely why it landed in our number one spot on this list.
Other important details

We ordered 12 portions of fish for $131.88, which puts the price per portion right around $10.

Wild Alaskan Company bills through a monthly subscription or once every two months, but you can pause or cancel anytime. This is wonderful for smaller families that simply don’t consume as much food.

On this note, it’s important to know that they have live chat on their website and a very easy-to-work with customer support team. Although, we doubt you’ll even have to go that route unless you decide to pause/cancel your shipment.

You can choose from three options: an all salmon box, a combo box with salmon and white fish, or a wild white fish box. Each is available in a 12-piece or 24-piece order.

The amount of fish and quality of the fish justifies the $131 monthly price point. The only downside we found was the inability to order a la carte. But we didn’t deduct many points for that, because of the aforementioned monthly and every other month subscription options.

Because this is our number one choice, we took a deeper dive and wrote a more in-depth review that you can see here.

2. Lummi Island Wild (4.5 out of 5)

Lummi Island Wild, much like Wild Alaskan Company, is heavily invested in providing wild-caught, sustainable seafood to anyone who wants it in the USA.

Lummi Island Wild allows for individual orders on their website or community orders through their buyer’s club. But their buyer’s club is only available in select states, and to get information on it you have to speak with a company representative.

All in all, getting fresh seafood in bulk may not be an option for everyone, but the individual portions are. That can be a blessing or a curse, depending on your situation and how much fish you want.
Why we liked Lummi Island Wild
Lummi Island has options galore that go beyond fish and extend to crab and other seafood. The option to purchase individual portions is a strength and a weakness, but we see it as more of a strength.
Other important details
We really like the ability to order smaller portions, but it comes at a cost, literally. Shipping is only free if you spend more than $99, which is a total bummer. The reason we are repeating that for the umpteenth time is because we got burned on that.

We ordered six portions of salmon and paid $90 for the fish and an additional $80 for shipping. Gasp!

Quick math puts us at $15 per portion, but if we would have ordered another portion of King salmon ($16 extra), we would have qualified for free shipping, which would have reduced the per portion cost to approximately $13 per portion, and we would have had more salmon.

Rookie mistake, but we didn’t notice that at first on their website.

Overall, the product and packaging were great. Lummi Island Wild shipped the fish in a styrofoam container that could easily be re-used as a quick cooler for a picnic. That was a nice feature.

3. Sena Sea (4.5 out of 5)

Sena Sea stands by it’s claim that every fish is hand caught and selected for shipment by the company owner, Rich. That’s quite the service!

Sena Sea offers a monthly subscription similar to Wild Alaskan Company, which can save you money, but also allows for smaller orders, which usually bundle two or four 6oz portions. The price varies depending on the type of fish you order and quantity.
Why we liked Sena Sea
The taste of the fish was exceptional and very comparable to Wild Alaskan Company or Lummi Island Wild, but what stood out with Sena Sea was the packaging.

The custom branded packaging made us feel like the fish would taste amazing. Then when we cooked it and it met our preconceived expectations, we were delighted, to say the least.
Other important details
We ordered four portions of fish that equated to approximately $82 and paid an extra $25 in shipping. That put us at roughly $20 per portion, which is pretty spendy per portion.

While it was clear that this wasn’t from your neighborhood grocer’s meat department, and that it was fresh-frozen fish from Alaskan waters, it’s hard to wrap our heads around paying that much more per portion for prettier packaging, hence the reason Sena Sea dropped to our third spot on this list.

4. Sizzlefish (3.8 out of 5)

Sizzlefish offers a variety of wild-caught seafood, including Alaskan salmon. The company promotes a monthly subscription but also allows for non-subscription orders as long as you still buy a full box. So, either way, you’re still paying for 10+ portions all at once.
Why we liked Sizzlefish
We liked that the shipping was free and that the regular salmon had good taste. The filets come in 4oz portions instead of 6oz, and usually in a box with 14 portions instead of 12 or fewer. The smaller portions still gave us plenty to eat when plated with a salad, rice, or as part of a larger meal.
Other important details
We ordered 14 portions of a salmon assortment box for $95 and got free shipping. The price per portion was just under $7. It was extremely economical for fresh fish, but the taste wasn’t as good as some of the other providers.

The non-marinated salmon was delicious, as we’d come to expect from such services, but some of the flavors (like Thai curry and Korean BBQ) just didn’t do it for us. In fact, the Thai Curry would have been tossed out if it wasn’t for a hungry “I’ll eat anything” teenager in the house at the time. We much preferred the regular salmon to the pre-marinated portions.

We could have ordered just king salmon instead of an assortment box, but then the price would have gone up drastically, costing $138 for 14 portions, putting the price at approximately $10 per portion.

Our other big issue with Sizzlefish was that the labels were poorly placed, and many had fallen off of the fish during shipment, so we had to play a guessing game to match the right label with each fish. The labels just didn’t stick well, and that was a bummer because we wanted to know exactly which fish we were cooking.

5. Sea to Table (3.5 out of 5)

Sea to Table offers a monthly subscription plan or non-subscription purchases, similar to Sizzlefish. Sea to Table boasts 1-3 days for shipping depending on where you live (more on that down below).

As we’ve seen with other providers, Sea to Table offers more than just fish but extends its menu
Why we liked Sea to Table
The packages were very well labeled and wrapped. They weren’t as beautifully packaged as Sena Sea, but the company still used very efficient labeling processes. The taste of the fish was very comparable to other providers, which was nice.
Other important details
OK… OK… So here’s where things got fishy (pun intended)!

We made several orders and had them shipped to different locations about 30 miles away from each other in the same state. One order came cold, but not frozen, which was concerning, but we felt ok eating it.

The other package was completely spoiled and thawed. We had to seek a refund on that purchase, which wasn’t all that bad, but it was extra work and left a bad taste in our mouths, unlike the fish itself.

Each box that we ordered was $115 for 12 portions of fish, which equates to almost $10 per portion. After further research, it seems that people located in the western regions of the United States experience the most trouble with shipping. So, perhaps our experience would have been better if we lived in the east. Regardless, this experience dropped Sea to Table down in the overall rankings.

Our Final Thoughts

Each of these providers has something to offer, but the clear winner here for us was Wild Alaskan Company. Not only was their fish delicious, but they offered the best overall experience when you include shopping on their website, packaging and shipping, cost per portion, quality and taste, and any other factors included in the process.   The different providers all have their strengths, and depending on your needs, one may suit your needs better than another, but for the majority of people, we think Wild Alaskan Company currently has the best offering for amazing salmon and wild-caught fish.

Is Alaskan Salmon Really the Best
in the World?

Discover why it is the premium choice for seafood lovers.
Settling for less than what you may want or deserve has never been a good thing, and salmon is no exception. For generations, seafood has been reeled in from all over the world bringing the question of where one can count on finding the best salmon. And the biggest catch has gone to Alaska. There is a reason why the fish of this state have supported humans for thousands of years. Alaska is home to some of the most premier quality salmon you can find.
So how does Alaska become so well known for producing some of if not the worlds’ best salmon? Well, there are multiple factors that go into ensuring the wild salmon of Alaska exceed expectations.

As pure as ocean water can get

Let’s call it for what it is, Alaska is fish country. It is there that you will find some of the cleanest freshwater, and marine habitats. Because of this alone, there are abundant stocks of fish that can thrive in a sustainable, healthy, and clean state.

Keep in mind that Alaska is thousands of miles away from sources of contamination that typically pollute the food supply in other parts of the world. The salmon that grow in this states’ waters are not introduced to nearly as many pollutants as those that are caught closer inland or even farmed for that matter.

Five-Star taste

If anything, Alaskan salmon is known for its superior taste. The fact that the fish is from the wild, living in some of the cleanest water around the world, feeding on its natural diet that consists of different marine organisms that also naturally live in the healthier waters all contribute to what makes the texture and flavor of this fish so naturally appealing. There are no genetically modified diets that are being implemented on the salmon that could take away from its natural taste.

Healthy

No question about it, natural and wild is always going to be better for you than farmed and modified. With Alaskan salmon the benefits are endless. These fish are full of hearty omega-3s, low in saturated fats, high in healthy fats, and nutritious all around.

As opposed to farmed salmon where they are being fed with modified diets, not to mention treated with antibiotics to try to combat diseases that can spread due to the crowded conditions they live in. You can count on wild Alaskan salmon having a very low level of contaminants compared to those that are farmed and harvested.

Wild and free

As small as a factor as this might seem, giving the salmon the chance to swim freely and mature at a natural pace without any modifications or mutations that could happen at farms makes all the difference. Alaska practices this so much that they even have regulations that ban them from logging too close to salmon streams to avoid impacting and enclosing any of the habitats that the fish live in.

The Premium Choice

So what should you do now? For starters, go ahead and order some undeniably delicious Alaskan salmon from credible source, then cook it up and pay close attention as your mood gets better and your taste buds praise you.

See for yourself why everyone is saying that Alaskan salmon really is the best out there. Once you try it, you’ll realize why the salmon of Alaska, coming out of some of the worlds’ most pure waters, is unparalleled in not only the health benefits of it, the texture, but its natural flavor as well.
